Run Competitions

Organise with Product Categories

Categories appear in the navigation and on the homepage. How to create them, assign competitions, and reorder.

Updated 18 June 20264 min read

Categories group competitions on your storefront. Customers can filter by category in the navigation, and category pages get their own SEO-friendly URL at /competitions/<category>.

Why categories matter

Two reasons:

  • Discovery.A customer landing on your “Cars” category page (from Google) sees every active car competition in one place. Much higher intent than landing on a random home page.
  • SEO. Each category page is indexable and has its own title, description, and URL. They rank for long-tail competition searches.

Standard categories that work

Most operators run 5–8 categories:

  • Cars — anything with wheels
  • Cash — pure-cash prize draws
  • Tech — phones, consoles, TVs, laptops
  • Lifestyle — holidays, experiences, gym memberships
  • Site Credit — credit-back competitions
  • Instant Wins — pure instant-win competitions
  • Free Entry — your free-entry mirror competitions

Don’t go beyond 8 — too many categories splinter your homepage and dilute SEO.

Setting up categories

The categories table is seeded with sensible defaults when your tenant is provisioned. To add a new category today, ask us via [email protected]— we’re shipping a category admin UI in Phase 2.5. Until then, the existing categories cover most launch needs.

Assigning a competition to a category

On the competition edit page (/admin/comps/<id>), you’ll find a Categoriesfield. It accepts multiple — a Land Rover competition could sit in both “Cars” and “Lifestyle”. Save and the competition appears under each.
