SEO Defaults: Title & Description
Your homepage title, meta description, and Open Graph image — where they show up in Google and on social.
SEO defaults control how your homepage and category pages appear in Google search results and on social shares. Per-competition pages have their own SEO derived from the competition title — these defaults cover everything else.
Where to edit
Raffle admin → Marketing → SEO defaults. Three fields plus your OG image URL.
Page title (≤ 60 characters)
Appears as the blue link in Google results. Includes your brand name + your strongest hook.
- Bad:“Home — Acme Raffles Competition Website”
- Better:“Acme Raffles — Win Cars, Cash & Tech From 99p”
Front-load the keywords most likely to drive clicks. Brand name comes second.
Meta description (≤ 160 characters)
The dark grey paragraph under the blue link in Google. Doesn’t directly affect rankings, but does affect click-through — and click-through DOES affect rankings.
- State what you do, who for, and the strongest proof point. Example: “Weekly UK prize competitions with instant wins from 99p. Real winners, transparent draws, free postal entry available. Trustpilot ★★★★★.”
- Avoid keyword stuffing. Google penalises descriptions that repeat “raffle competition prize draw” ten times.
OG image (1200 × 630 px recommended)
The image that appears when your homepage URL is shared on Facebook, WhatsApp, X, iMessage. Single biggest leverage on share click-through.
- Show a prize. A car, a stack of cash, an iPhone — concrete beats abstract.
- Overlay your logo + tagline in the corner. Don’t cover the prize image with copy.
- Test render on opengraph.xyz before going live.
Sitemap + robots
Both ship by default. /sitemap.xmllists every public page (competitions, winners, free-entry, T&Cs, etc). /robots.txt permits all major search engines and disallows known scrapers.
You don’t need to do anything else to be indexable. We recommend submitting your sitemap once to Google Search Console on launch day — speeds initial indexing.
